Kenya School of TVET: Leadership Programme

In the first week of August 2025, the Kenya School of TVET in Nairobi hosted a high-impact Capacity Building Leadership Master Training, facilitated by Oonagh McGirr, Director at the World Alliance for Microcredentials (WAM) Foundation. The programme was delivered in collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), as part of a broader initiative to strengthen leadership capacity within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in Kenya.

The week-long master training brought together TVET leaders, administrators, and institutional heads from across the country, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to lead transformative change in their institutions.

Key focus areas

Oonagh McGirr, drawing from her global experience in education leadership and credential innovation, emphasised the critical role of agile, accountable leadership in the success of modern TVET systems.

The training marks a significant step towards capacity development in Kenya’s skills ecosystem, aligning with national workforce development goals and international labour standards.

Governance and Strategic Planning – enhancing institutional vision, leadership structures, and long-term planning.
Quality Management – ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with national and international standards.
HR Systems and Operations – developing efficient, inclusive, and future-ready workforce practices.
Finance and Resource Mobilisation – strengthening financial planning, sustainability, and fundraising strategies.
Stakeholder Management and Engagement – building meaningful partnerships with industry, government, and communities.
